Engineering is my passion

My name is Julian Ferraro and I am a native New Yorker from Lower Manhattan, a graduate of the A. James Clarke School of Engineering at the University of Maryland in Electrical Engineering, and master's student at the Colorado University Boulder's Creative Technology and Design program. My main focus within Engineering is product design. What excites me most within engineering is the hands-on work in which one brings concepts and theory into the physical world.

Engineering has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. After competing for a statewide award on my 6th grade Lego robotics team, I started to gain an understanding of what was possible with engineering; that it could be fun and collaborative as well as challenging. It has been a long journey developing a clearer focus on what I wanted to pursue as a professional engineer. Although I was always comfortable with math and physics, it wasn't until I started using engineering fundamentals in a creative way that I really began to discover what motivated me.

After diving into the world of music electronics, I began to create projects that relied on my engineering skills, but were also fulfilling and personally enjoyable. This is how I became fascinated with the ideation and prototyping process. I eventually realized that if I ever wanted to market and sell any of my creations, I would have to start thinking about the user experience. This is what led me to pursue a graduate degree in creative technology and design at the University of Colorado Boulder. I am eager to learn more about how to cultivate a memorable user experience and apply this to product design.
